100 metres long, 20 metres wide. Wooden modules that were placed on a concrete foundation and simultaneously radiate a functional and cosy atmosphere. The jungStil youth centre has found a new home here, as has the family support centre and the "Rappelkiste" childcare facility. The centrepiece of the building, the meeting point, has been created around a patio. Meeting and play rooms, a spacious kitchen, an exercise room, a workshop, a media studio, a band rehearsal room and an office round off the facilities on offer.
Focus on sustainability
Sustainability played a major role in the planning and construction. Local wood was used for the interior and exterior walls, the flat roof is extensively greened and equipped with photovoltaics. A heat pump has been installed and the rainwater is not channelled into the sewage system but collected and used to irrigate the newly landscaped grounds. The concrete floor slab is made from recycled concrete and the surfaces of the sockets and switches are made from recycled fishing nets.
The outdoor area offers attractive facilities for young and old alike: a football pitch, streetball and roller sports facilities. Around 20 car parking spaces will be provided alongside the Florian-Geyer-Halle. There will be charging stations not only for mobile phones, but also for electric cars. There will also be parking spaces for bicycles.
The sponsors of the project: the Bavarian Youth Ring, the Bavarian State Foundation, the Government of Lower Franconia, the Bavarian State Ministry for Housing, Construction and Transport and the Office for Food, Agriculture and Forestry, which coordinates the EU grants within the framework of LEADER and contributes the largest grant of around one million euros.
Investing in the future
Jochen Kulczynski, head of jungStil, explains why the House for Youth and Family is a forward-looking project for the town of Kitzingen:
"Providing a building like this is a forward-looking approach! It makes sense to get young people interested in their city at an early stage and give them the opportunity to realise their potential. By establishing a good relationship with young people as a municipal player and creating interesting programmes, you can motivate them to actively participate in the community. The new centre is a great opportunity, especially in the area of youth culture and youth democracy. I am delighted to see that the city and politicians are placing so much emphasis on the development and participation of the younger generation! And that's just the added value we have as a municipality."
