Description of the
Anyone moving onto an inland waterway vessel registered in a ship register in the Federal Republic of Germany must register with the registration authority in the place where the vessel’s home port is situated. The regulations governing the general obligation to register and the obligation of the person required to register to provide information apply accordingly. The obligation to register does not apply as long as the person is registered as residing at a domestic address. Registration may also be carried out at another registration office or with the water police, who will forward the details to the competent registration office. The registration authority may request information from ship owners regarding persons who live or have lived on their vessels.
Prerequisites
The inland waterway vessel must be registered for a shipping register in the Federal Republic of Germany.
Deadlines
Registration must take place within two weeks of moving in.

The registration authority responsible is the one in the town where the vessel’s home port is located. However, registration may also be carried out at another registration authority or with the Water Police, who will forward the details to the relevant registration authority.
