Description of the
If, for whatever reason (e.g. as a result of an eviction order), you are at risk of homelessness because you are unable, through your own efforts – in particular by using your own material or financial resources or by making use of other support services – to secure adequate accommodation in a reasonable manner, you should contact your local authority as soon as possible. They will then be able to assess what measures can be taken to prevent you from becoming homeless. In addition, your local authority can provide you with further information on the wide range of available solutions. The same applies if you have already become homeless as a result of a sudden incident (e.g. a fire in your home).
In the event that no other option is available and you have to be temporarily accommodated by the local authority in emergency accommodation – which could, for example, be a residential container – we would like to draw your attention to the following:
Accommodation provided by the local authority is always only a temporary measure. Emergency accommodation must therefore only meet the minimum requirements for decent accommodation. According to established case law, when accommodation is provided as part of homeless care, extensive restrictions on housing entitlements must be accepted. You cannot demand ‘accommodation of a residential standard’.
Prerequisites
The threat of homelessness, or having already experienced homelessness with no prospect of finding new accommodation.
