Description of the
The ID card holder must immediately report the loss (loss, theft) of the ID card to the blocking hotline or the relevant ID card authority so that the online ID card function can be blocked and misuse can be ruled out (see "Related topics").
Important: Nobody can read your data without your PIN. However, blocking ensures that any attempted misuse can be recognised and prevented immediately.
The easiest way to block a card is to call the blocking hotline on 116 116 (free of charge from a German landline or mobile phone). From abroad, the hotline can be reached for a fee on +49 116 116 or +49 (0)30 40 50 40 50.
You can find the blocking information, in particular the blocking password, in the PIN letter if you apply before 16 February 2025. Since 17 February 2025, you will find the blocking password on the disc that was given to you when you collected your new ID card.
If you would like to have the online ID card function blocked by the authorities or if you no longer have the blocking password required for blocking by telephone, you can also have it blocked directly by your local ID card authority.
If you have found your ID card again, you can have the online ID card function unblocked in person at the ID card authority. Unblocking by telephone is not possible.
