Description of the
The mortuary certificate is issued by the local authority in whose area the transport begins. The mortuary certificate can only be issued once the necessary documents have been submitted.
Since 1 September 2025, local authorities have also been able to offer the option of applying for the mortuary certificate online.

Special information for - City of Kitzingen
It is not possible to apply online to the town of Kitzingen.

Required documents
The following documents must be submitted:
- Death certificate
  : In the case of repatriation to another country, the registry office must have noted on the death certificate either that the death has been registered or that registration has been deferred.
- in the event of suspected non-natural death: Burial authorisation in accordance with Section 159 (2) of the Code of Criminal Procedure
Costs
The fees or costs for issuing a corpse passport vary depending on the municipality.

The corpse passport is issued as soon as the application with all the necessary documents is complete.
