Description of the
As energy costs continue to rise and for ecological reasons, private households are becoming increasingly interested in using firewood to generate energy. Private individuals can purchase standing, lying or advanced wood (including crown wood) and use it for their own needs.
Private and municipal forest owners usually offer firewood for independent processing, which cannot be used for sale to the timber industry after harvesting.
The firewood self-procurer acquires a wood purchase right from the forest owner for a certain quantity of firewood or is allocated a demarcated area for firewood processing by the forest owner. Payment is made directly to the forest owner.
Prerequisites
Working independently in the forest is not without danger. Self-producers of firewood must therefore generally fulfil the following requirements:
- Proof of personal liability insurance
- Proof of a chainsaw course recognised by the agricultural trade association
- Certified protective equipment consisting of helmet with ear and face protection, gloves, signal jacket, cut protection trousers and well profiled cut protection boots.
When processing firewood, the instructions of the forest owner must always be followed!
Notes
The Bavarian State Forests also offer firewood that you can make yourself. Please contact the responsible forestry company.
