Sewage disposal; applying for a property connection

Provided that your local authority has stipulated this in its drainage regulations, properties served by sewers forming part of a public drainage system must, as a rule, also be connected to that system and use it. Technically, this requires the installation of a so-called property connection, i.e. a pipe running from the public sewer to the inspection chamber (which is usually located at the boundary of the property). Via this property connection, you then connect the areas and buildings on the property that require wastewater disposal to the public drainage system.

Whether the local authority or the property owner is responsible for the installation, renewal, modification and maintenance of the property connection varies from one local authority to another. Please therefore contact your local authority for further details. They will also be able to provide you with information on the technical requirements for connecting your property to the mains and on the costs you will incur for the installation of such a property connection.
