Description of the
If – in accordance with the provisions of your water supplier’s water supply regulations – you also (have to) draw water from the public mains network for watering your garden, you may, under certain circumstances, be able to save on sewage charges, provided that your local public sewage disposal authority provides for this in its local regulations on contributions and charges under the drainage regulations. To this end, the regulations must contain a provision stating that, upon application, certain volumes of water which can be proven not to have entered the public sewerage system may be deducted from the volume of wastewater used to calculate the sewage charges. To provide evidence of this volume of water used in the garden, you are generally required to fit a sealed, permanently installed and calibrated garden water meter as a sub-meter on the relevant (garden) water pipe and to report the volume of garden water consumed on the property to the local authority.
Please note: If your local regulations do not include such a provision in the articles of association, such a deduction is not possible.
Please contact your local council for further details on this matter.
