Integration

People from around 108 countries, ranging from Algeria to Cyprus, currently live in Kitzingen. The aim of the town of Kitzingen is to ensure that all its foreign residents can participate on an equal footing in professional, cultural, community and social life.

Since 2016, the city’s ‘Asylum Round Table’ has been addressing all issues relating to displacement, arrival in Germany, and assistance and support. Representatives from the social services sector, charitable organisations, the business community and the voluntary sector provide advice and work on a wide range of tasks. Among other things, they devise and implement projects designed to facilitate interaction between different groups.

Focus on interpersonal encounters

A particularly successful example is the neighbourhood festival, launched in 2010, at which local and foreign residents come together to celebrate a shared cultural festival. ‘Language Week’ rounds off the key themes of integration work: language, education and work, equal treatment, responsibility and values. Partnerships with a wide variety of organisations and initiatives are planned or are already underway, such as the ‘Geschenketreff’.

Integration is a particular responsibility of the political forces in Kitzingen. But it is also a task for society as a whole, based on respect and openness towards all citizens in Kitzingen, and therefore concerns us all. And this does not only apply to people from migrant backgrounds. Spaces where people with disabilities can meet are also very important. The town of Kitzingen is committed to this too. A fine example is the guided tours of the town with a sign language interpreter, which you can book through the Integration Officer in collaboration with Kitzingen Tourist Information.
